Re: Young Adult Book Festival 2020 goes digital this year!

The Young Adult Book Fest is Ireland’s largest arts festival for teenagers. This 3 day virtual festival will run from November 24th to 26th and can be accessed daily on our new and exciting website https://yabookfest.ie/. Our dream is to stimulate, inspire and entertain young people through exposure to all genres of literature. We are based in Listowel, Co. Kerry and are part of Listowel Writers Week, Ireland’s oldest and most dynamic literary festival.Traditionally held in Listowel every November with audiences of up to 1000 students, this year we have decided to take a virtual leap and extend our audience through Ireland and beyond.

We have a heady line-up this year with President Michael D. Higgins, Minister Norma Foley and many others talking on our theme of hope. Our educational component will be presentations on aspects of Paper One from English teaching experts Frances Rocks and Kevin Mc Dermott. We have diverse genres of creativity included with Pulitzer prize-winner Malachy Browne, Bernard Brogan in conversation with RTE’s Joe Stack, Memoir writers Senator Lynn Ruane and John Leonard, Film-makers Jon-Hozier Byrne. Young Adult writers Sarah Crossan and Dave Rudden will offer tips on the creative process while Frank the Rapper will issue students with a rap challenge, and we will have a lot more surprises in store. Poets Victoria Kennefick, Ciara Ní É and singers/songwriters are guaranteed to enchant. Our Youth focus group will talk on recent books they have read. Also there will be helpful teaching resources to accompany events!!!! See the full programme of events here https://yabookfest.ie/schedule/.

And the good news is that this whole festival is free. However, we are actively seeking funding to keep the Young Adult Book Fest ship sailing so if you have any ideas on sponsorship, we would be forever grateful. Donations are also welcome on https://writersweek.ie/. Please spread the word on social media to your colleagues and friends
