The 1st Year Civic Social Political Education (CSPE) students in Bunclody Vocational College undertook a Community Based Action for their CSPE Classroom Based Assessment.
In October/November preparations got underway.
For the month of December all 1st years were assigned the first name of a resident from our local Nursing Homes, 'Signacare' and 'Rós Aoibhinn'.
Through the An Post “Free Postage” initiative which they ran nationwide for the month of December, each 1st year student wrote a weekly Christmas card to their assigned resident, meaning that their resident received a total of four cards over the course of December and festive period. This week our 1st year students designed and printed their own Christmas card while completing their enterprise project in Business Studies with their teacher Ms. S. Kinsella. These cards added an extra beautiful personal touch this Christmas week!
Alongside all of this, the students and staff of Bunclody Vocational College were doing a collection. It was decided that each resident and frontline worker, one hundred and twenty-three people in total would receive a Gift-bag from our school.
All 1st years and staff here at Bunclody Vocational College donated skincare to the packages.
We also ran a school Christmas Raffle which funded the purchasing of the gift-bags, soaps, hand-creams, razors, boxes of chocolates and the ingredients to make individually wrapped scones.
We were kindly donated some gift-bags and soaps from Deirdre Minogue’s boutique in Rathwood.
We were also kindly donated an overnight B&B Voucher for The 5* Heritage Killinard that supported our School Raffle & finally miniature pots of Jam were donated to us from Ms. J. Byrne & her husband Declan.
The link to CSPE is made through Strand 1 "Rights & Responsibilities" studied by 1st year students. It was our wish and responsibility to give the gift of hope, love, respect, and dignity to our elderly this year. We also wanted to show our thanks and gratitude to The Frontline workers in Bunclody.
Each 1st year student was rewarded with a pin with the rainbow 🌈 image reminding them of the commitment made throughout our country by The Frontline Workers.
Huge thanks to the organisers of this wonderful initiative Ms K Finn and Ms M Boggan.
