Parents' Association

A message from our Parent's Council

As parents, we appreciate that you, like many other parents throughout the country may be concerned about the education cutbacks announced in recent times. You are most likely concerned as to how these cutbacks will affect your child. Growing class sizes, fewer teachers and cutbacks in school budgets are real issues that affect the quality of education for all our children. To ease some of your fears, the Parents’ Association of Bunclody Vocational College would like to bring to your attention the benefits to be gained by students who attend our school in these challenging times.

Our current school population of 220 students means that our school enjoys one of the lowest teacher-pupil ratios in the county. This allows our teachers to spend more individual time with all students, thereby, increasing their chances of reaching their full potential.

The teachers, parents, school management and Board of Management constantly strive to ensure that the best resources are available to support student learning and to facilitate the many ways in which our children learn. All students have access to excellent computer facilities and all classrooms are now equipped with data projectors and internet access.

It is not by chance that our children do so well at Bunclody Vocational College. The commitment and dedication of the staff in our school are second to none and the excellent examination results, the numerous awards that the students’ have won over the years and the broad range of extra curricular activities are testament to the extra hours put in by staff..

The school has a well disciplined environment and a child centred approach to learning which results in a friendly but disciplined learning environment in the school.

The Parents Association liaises closely with the school and has helped to progress a number of exciting developments in recent years. These include a new Art room, Woodwork room and revamped Home Economics room. We have also purchased additional equipment for the Woodwork, Metalwork, Music, Art and Technology departments. We also provided indoor and outdoor seating for students and the equipment for our Radio Station. The Parents Association are currently fundraising to assist with the proposed development of the house on Irish Street that was purchased by the school. Here we hope to provide a parents room and meeting room as well as offices for guidance and counselling and an exhibition centre to display the work of our talented students. It is also hoped to provide an astro turf pitch to coincide with the schools multi-million euro extension which is expected to be completed by 2023.

Finally, we would like to thank all those parents who take an active role in our Association. We as parents have an essential role in our child’s education and the Parent’s Association is our voice in that process.
