Taster Programme

First Year Taster Programme

Research, and our own experience has shown that students participate better in, and attain higher marks in, subjects that they like. With this in mind we have introduced a ‘Taster Year’ for all students in first year. The “Taster Year” will allow your child to experience all subjects on offer during their first year in our school. It is envisaged that the Taster Year will assist students in identifying subjects that they have a natural ability for and that they enjoy. It may also assist them in developing an interest in future career areas.

The Taster Programme involves experiencing all 18 subjects for the full year. At the end of first year they then make their Junior Certificate subject choices. Students are supported with this important decision by their class teachers, our Guidance Counselor, school management and by you the parent. They then drop a selection of subjects for second year and focus on those of interest to them for their Junior Certificate exams. Option bands for senior cycle are also based on student preferences.
